Safe Flight Celebrates 75 Years of Innovation

White Plains, New York (Tuesday, October 12, 2021) — Safe Flight Instrument, LLC of White Plains, NY commemorates 75 years of aviation excellence.

As a young pilot in training, Dr. Leonard Greene witnessed a fatal plane crash caused by an aerodynamic stall and proceeded to invent the Stall Warning Lift Detector. In 1937 he began to lobby the Civil Aeronautics Administration to make stall warning a requirement on all aircraft providing a crucial element of aviation safety that has been credited for saving more lives in aviation than any other single safety device.

Safe Flight was incorporated in 1946 and has become the leader in the field of aircraft lift instrumentation. For the past 75 years, Safe Flight has remained dedicated to the production of aviation performance and safety equipment. While continuing to specialize in lift instrumentation, the firm has constantly expanded its product line, which has evolved from stall warning sensors for light aircraft to sophisticated angle-of-attack and stall protection systems. Safe Flight has continued to innovate while pioneering such industry standards as autothrottle, control column shakers, stall warning, wind shear warning, angle-of-attack, and an icing conditions detector. The company has recently entered the helicopter sector with a Powerline Detector and an Exceedance Warning System uniquely using tactile warning.

Safe Flight’s specialized technical capabilities have been honored through prestigious awards such as the Air Safety Award from the Flight Safety Foundation, the Quality Excellence Award from the Department of Defense, the Meritorious Service to Aviation presented by the National Business Aircraft Association, and the Aviation Safety Award from Honeywell Bendix Trophy.

Safe Flight continues to build on its diverse capabilities with several recent program awards including the autothrottle system on the Bombardier Challenger 3500 and the Air Force RC-135, as well as developing the next generation of Stall Warning/Protection for the Beechcraft Denali.

“It is a tremendous honor to carry on the legacy my grandfather built over three-quarters of a century ago,” said Matt Greene, third generation of the Greene family to lead the company as President. “Safe Flight has never lost sight of our original philosophy of solving complex problems with simple solutions, making Safe Flight one of the most recognizable names in the aerospace industry. We have grown to design, develop, and manufacture proprietary equipment for nearly every OEM across all segments of the aerospace industry.”
